We recently received the below from the lobbyist for the Tennessee Dispensing Optcians Associations.  As you can see the state of Tennessee is under going sunset review of licensing and have just completed the first hurdle of moving through committee in a positive manner.
 
 
BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!    Your efforts have paid off as we successfully cleared our first hurdle.  After a nearly 3 hour committee meeting, the members of the Joint General Welfare Subcommittee of the House and Senate Government Operations Committee voted unanimously (Rep. Gary Odom left the room before the vote) to extend the life of the Board of Dispensing Opticians for an additional six years!  Special thanks should go to Sen. Ophelia Ford (D-Memphis) who serves as Secretary of the Senate Government Operations Committee.  She spoke about her eyewear needs and the importance of having licensed opticians. She also made the critical motion to recommend the extension of the board for six years.  Please remember to thank her. 
 
Special thanks should also go out to Ms. Miller, Director of Health Related Boards who presented testimony on our behalf and thanked the legislature for their wisdom for creating the Board back in 1955.

Kudos go out to everyone who attended today's meeting and those who worked diligently contacting their legislators and the members of the House & Senate Government Operations Committee.

Our next step is approval in 2009 by the full House & Senate Government Operations Committee and then passage by the full House and Senate.     You all made me feel very proud to be your lobbyist!
